‘Cryptocurrency’ Not ‘Crypto’, Says Associated Press

Cryptocurrency Not Crypto

Associated Press’ AP Stylebook which is a handbook used globally by writers from various fields has issued guidance on the correct use of the term cryptocurrency. It suggested that writers ought to “avoid using the shorthand crypto, which can be confused with cryptography.”

This addition by Associated Press which adds new terms to its Stylebook each year – serves as further proof that the cryptocurrency space is gaining mindshare among the wider population.

AP stylebook twitted: “We have a new entry on cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Ethereum. It contains explanations as well as style points. #APS”

“Capitalize when referring to Bitcoin and other currencies as a system, but lowercase when referring to their use as payment: The government wants to regulate Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. He bought a vacuum cleaner online using bitcoins. #APStyleChat
